If you or someone you know is struggling or facing a tough time, the MATES Helpline is here to support you. Available 24/7, our team is ready to listen, provide guidance, and help you find the support you need. You don't have to go through this alone.

Who is this for?

The MATES Helpline is free and confidential for energy workers and their families.

  • MATES respects privacy and confidentiality – no information is shared without consent.
  • MATES Helpline is answered quickly by qualified psychologists and counsellors who understand the industry and stressors that go with it.
  • If further support is required, a MATES Case Manager will be in touch during business hours to create a support plan.

Calling MATES: what to expect.

Calling for support for the first time can be a hard call to make, but it's easier if you have a clear understanding of what to expect when calling the MATES Helpline.

Who will answer my call?

Your call to the MATES Helpline 1300 642 111, will be answered by qualified Counsellors, Psychologists and Social Workers who are very familiar with our industry. They will talk with you about your situation and if necessary, refer you to MATES Case Management. If you do call an office number instead of the 1300, please select the first option to be connected to support.

MATES Case Management

MATES Case Managers are qualified social workers or psychologists and are available during business hours 8.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday. If you have made a call to the MATES Helpline through the night or over the weekend, you will be contacted the following business day by a MATES Case Manager. They will then create a personalised support plan with external service providers, and keep in touch with you to ensure that the plan is working well, until your situation has resolved.

What support services are available?

MATES have contacts with an array of service providers including alcohol and other drugs, relationships counselling, financial counselling, industrial help, legal assistance, general mental health support, anger management, life skills, community groups and suicide counselling. Your Case Manager will find appropriate support most suited to your needs.

In case of emergency of imminent danger, call police on 000.

Lifeline

24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention. Trained counsellors are ready to talk any time, day or night.

Mens Line Australia

Free and confidential support for men dealing with mental health, relationship issues, or tough times. Available 24/7.

Suicide Callback Service

Professional counselling for anyone affected by suicide — available 24/7 by phone or online chat.
